About Me
Since there isn't much to talk about this weekend, I decided to sit down and write a brief autobiography here. I'd put it in the profile but it would take up too much space. So here it is:
My name is Andy Nevis. I am a 15 year old incoming sophomore in the PACE Program at John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento. Interestingly enough, the PACE program was founded by former Education Secretary for Gray Davis, Gary Hart. (No, not the Presidential Candidate) Of course, Sec. Hart and I have almost nothing in common, at least politically.
How I became a conservative is a mystery to me. I think that it is probably a combination of conservative parents and, frankly, genetics. I must have been at least somewhat born with it. I remember at age 10 debating my best friend about the 2000 Presidential Race (Another Interesting Factoid: His father was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention last summer.) If there is a political gene, I certainly must have it.
My political involvement really began last summer when the presidential campaign was heating up. I began posting occasionally at Free Republic. And I kept getting more and more wrapped up in blogging and decided to start this blog in February 2005.
In my young career, I have already had some great experiences. I have been interviewd by The Washington Post, EricHogue, and various bloggers. I am also a caller to Eric's show and occasionally other talk programs.
I was a founding member of The Western Alliance, a group of blogs which seeks to make a difference in local and national politics. I serve as a commentator to the group blog and also run the private message board of the bloggers alliance members.
In the summer of 2005, I was a leader in the movement to get Calfiornia Attorney General Bill Lockyer to remove this painting from his office. I collected over 3,000 signatures on a petition to have it removed. I am proud to say that just days after I delievered that petition the painting was removed.
Me and my family have some interesting political connections. My grandfather was a good friend of Ross Perot. Former Assemblyman Darrel Steinburg's son played on my brother's soccer team. Darrel and I have almost nothing in common politically, but we still manage to get along without tearing each other apart.
But most of all, THANK YOU for reading. You have helped to make this one of the most read blogs by a young person in the nation.
